But that alone won't stop police work from being a dangerous job. A job that works to make our streets safer.

As we say in our driving safety classes, the first responsibility for your ownsafety rests on you. The best way to keep yourself safe is to drive defensively.

• Eliminate distractions and focus on your driving and your environment.
• Maintain a safety zone around your car.
• Anticipate what other drivers might do. Have mental plan ready for responding to another driver doing something stupid.

By working to keep yourself safer, you do your part to make driving safer.

And you'll never become one of the “dangerous drivers” that police have to stop.
