Happy Birthday today to British actor and comic Russell Brand (born 1975) and American actress and comedienne Rosalind Russell (1907 – Nov 28, 1976).

Rosalind Russell had a forty-year career on both stage and screen, winning a Tony Award and all five Golden Globes for which she was nominated. Her best known film roles include the fast-talking girl reporter in His Girl Friday and the larger-than-life Mame Dennis in Auntie Mame.

A character actress of the first order, Russell was just as hilarious in screwball comedies as she was playing wealthy heiresses and even professional women such as judges and psychiatrists. Russell attributed her atypically long Hollywood career to the fact that she never became a sex symbol, playing on her looks as a basis for career.

Russell Brand first acheived mainstream attention in the UK in 2004 as host of Big Brother’s Big Mouth, a spin-off of the popular “reality” show. His first major film role was St Trinian’s in 2007, followed by roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and a starring role in 2010’s Get Him to the Greek and 2011’s remake of Arthur.

During his six-year career, Brand has had more than his share of controversy, including a reputation for drug use, alcoholism, and promiscuity; on-air prank calls that led to his resignation from the BBC, and various controversial appearances on various award shows.
