Kurt Cobain once said “If it’s illegal to rock and roll, throw my ass in jail!”
As the lead singer of the band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain became the unwitting poster boy for the Seattle grunge sound. It was the music that killed the “hair bands” like Poison, Ratt and Motley Crue. So, something good did come from the 1990s.
In 1992, Kurt married Courtney Love, the lead singer of Hole. If we were married to Courtney Love, we’d consider the shotgun style of ending the relationship. Also in 1992, they had a daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
Curt uttered the sentence, “I’d rather be dead than cool.” We hope he wasn’t being prophetic. He also said, “It is better to burn out than fade away,” something he did in his personal life.
The recording Nevermind generated the tune “Smells like Teen Spirit.” The song has a riff that is very similar to “Louie, Louie” by the Kingsman, but we here thought it was more like “More than a Feeling” by Boston.
In their career, Nirvana released three studio recordings which sold millions. That money now goes to feed Courtney’s heroin habit.
Kurt once said, “The sun is gone, but I have a light.” As long as there are tortured musical souls, that light will always burn.
