Davie Brenner was a favorite comic when Johnny Carson ruled the television airwaves. This master of mirth guest hosted for the legend on more than on occasion.  He appeared on the show over 150 times.

Since most of his material was topical and political, eventually he became a popular guest on news-oriented television programs.  He was popular on Dick Cavett–which sounds like the plot of a Cinemax movie….

Ranked #53 on Comedy Central’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time, David is known for saying:

“I don’t like to watch golf on television because I can’t stand people who whisper.”

“Entrepreneurs with disabilities are overwhelmingly successful.”

“A vegetarian is a person who wont eat anything that can have children.”

David Brenner was one of my favorites. I saw him live in Dallas at the Venitian room in the mid to late 70s. At the time I had dreams of becoming a comic. I even attempted to get some comedy routines to him by mailing them to his agent. Sadly I got no response. I was able to use some of the material in my own act. I still want to meet my once idol.
