South Korea’s newest celebrity is Cha Sa-soon, who finally passed her written driving test on her 960th attempt. She was determined to get a licence so that she could use a vehicle to sell vegetables and other goods.
Beginning in April 2005, she took her the 50-minute written test — consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions on road regulations and car maintenance — once a day, five days a week. Later her attempts dropped off to twice a week, but she never gave up.
“When she finally got her licence, we all went out cheering and hugged her, giving her flowers,” said Park Su-yeon, an instructor at Jeonbuk Driving School.
