Every summer the town of Estes, Colorado is invaded by frisky male elk who wander into town to battle each other for the right to get with the females who graze on the town's golf courses.

And I thought human tourists were annoying.

This video comes from the BBC One program HUMAN PLANET. Although it being the BBC, maybe I should have said “programme.”

Do you have any stories of animal encounters while you were driving?

When I was a kid, my father used to drive from Dallas to El Paso at least twice a year, to take care of some business and visit family. Usually he’d leave early in the morning to make the 10-hour drive before dinner.

One morning though, he hadn’t gone more than a couple of miles before he hit a stray pig on the road. He turned around, came home and switched vehicles with my mother. Later that morning, she drove into Royse City to wash the car, and all kinds of rumours spread through town, wondering who my mother had run over.
