It’s easier to rip somebody to shreds while you’re making them laugh,” said Wanda Sykes, today’s birthday girl. We here at ComedyGuys agree. When we rip someone to shreds, we want to hear them laugh over the spurting blood.
“Wanda got her first big break by opening for Chris Rock. He was so impressed by the comedienne that he hired her for his television show. She won a Prime Time Emmy for writing on the show. We are still hoping to get a gold star for our writing, but our “R” sometimes look like “S.”
Wanda, over the years, has appeared in Pootie Tang, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps and Monster-in-Law. This proves she has no taste when it comes to picking film projects.
She has had her biggest successes in voice-0ver work. Her distinctive timbre can been heard in Over the Hedge, Ice Age and Rio. We are guessing that it is better for Wanda to be heard and not seen.
Wanda was also the first African-American master of ceremony at the White House Correspondent’s dinner. in 2002, she hosted the 74th Academy Awards. She has done such an “interesting” job that she has never done them again.
All kidding aside, we wish Wanda the best in her struggles with cancer.
